Tax Retreat 2027: Minneapolis, Here We Come!

More Than Just Another Tax Conference

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know that Tax Retreat holds a special place in my heart.

The Tax Retreat started as a group of tax professionals who came together on Twitter through the hashtag #TaxTwitter. During Covid, we relied on each other to keep up to date on the ever changing legislation and support one another through some pretty challenging times.

So, when it became safe to start traveling again in 2023, we met up in person. In Denver.

Without an agenda. Without even a formal headcount.

I think we really expected maybe 20 to 30 people to show up. Instead, about 70 people came. We practically took over the Catbird Hotel!

The first Tax Retreat was literally a retreat. An opportunity to finally meet the people we’d gotten to know online (and through many Zoom calls).

But it was so refreshing to be surrounded by like-minded professionals, that we decided to do it again in 2024.

And we’ve kept doing it every year since.

I guess it’s officially a “conference” but we still intentionally aim for it to feel like a retreat for our community of professionals and friends.

Yes, now we have education and CPE, but we also aim to create an experience where people can connect, share ideas, build friendships, and actually enjoy spending time together.

And DEFINITELY have a little fun along the way.

One of my favorite things about Tax Retreat is watching those connections happen. People arrive knowing only a handful of attendees, or sometimes nobody at all, and leave with new friends, new ideas, and people they can turn to throughout the year.

I’ve experienced that myself. Some of the people I now consider close friends are people I first met through Tax Retreat and the community that’s grown around it.

That’s something I never take for granted.

Why Minneapolis?

Every year, choosing a location is part of the adventure.

We want somewhere that offers a great setting for our sessions, opportunities to explore, and plenty of places for conversations and connections to continue after the formal programming ends.

For 2027, we’ll be gathering at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, a historic property in downtown Minneapolis.

I’m already looking forward to exploring the city, reconnecting with old friends, meeting new ones, and seeing what adventures we find along the way.

And, of course, there will be Side Quests. Because what’s a Tax Retreat without a few adventures outside the conference rooms?

Come Join Us!

Registration for Tax Retreat 2027 is officially open, and our hotel room block is available.

Whether you’ve attended before or have been wondering what Tax Retreat is all about, I’d love to see you in Minneapolis next July.

You can find the details and register at taxretreat.org.

And there’s one more reason I’m especially excited about Minneapolis.

Although I’ve never visited the city, I recently discovered that a significant piece of my family’s history took place just 1.5 miles from our conference hotel.

It’s a story involving my Italian ancestors, family research, and a house I’ve come to know through old records but have never seen in person.

I’ll share more about that in another post.

For now, I’m looking forward to July 2027.

Minneapolis, here we come!
